DSP Spotlight: Marvin Bahr

I have worked at ADVANCE for just over 20 years; I also teach in the math department at SDSU.  I started here when I was going back to school to get my masters in the math department and looking for a part-time job on the recommendation of one of my friend's.  I didn't know what to expect.  Little did I know that 20 years later that I would still be here!  Each day is an adventure!  It has been one of the most rewarding jobs that I have ever done!  Each day, I get the opportunity to make someone's day and help them live their lives to the fullest.  I started as a relief staff and am now working as an activities coordinator.  I have gotten the opportunity to take people to the library, museums, Wild Water West, tubing at Great Bear, zoos in Sioux Falls and Watertown, the Redlin Art Center, pontoon rides, church, basketball games, and much more!  I love taking people out and seeing how happy it makes them!

It has become much more than a job.  It feels like I get paid to hang out with and do fun things with my friends.  I have also got to meet and become friends with many different staff here.  The hours are very flexible here and ADVANCE has been great about working with me around my teaching schedule.  I would recommend ADVANCE to anyone looking for a fun and rewarding job where you can make friendships that will last a lifetime!
