DSP Spotlight: Loral I Barrie

"My name is Loral I Barrie and I have been employees at ADVANCE for almost 3.5 years! I started my journey working as a Direct Support Professional in the Residential Services department while I was completing my undergraduate degree. Little did I know how this job would positively impact me in so many ways! One highlight of my time with Residential Services was when I took a trip with a person supported to the Black Hills for a few days! It is rewarding to help people supported reach personal goals like this to help them live their best lives.

I also had the opportunity to complete an internship in the Support Coordination department. My internship gave me experience and knowledge on how a non-profit agency functions behind the scenes. I also served on ADVANCE's leadership team and mentoring program. These were such beneficial learning and professional development opportunities for me.

I am currently working in the Vocational/Alternative Services departments as a part time relief staff while I complete a double Masters degree in School Counseling and Student Affairs at South Dakota State University. This job has allowed me to grow on both person and professional levesl. I can honestly and genuinely say I love my job here at ADVANCE and am so glad I decided to join their team. I have build so many relationships with both staff and people supported that will last a lifetime!"
